Sets by Matter of Chance

It was only a matter of chance for us to learn about the Hangin' with Fidel project just when we were struggling with the mountain of expenses involved in starting Rising Arts...

But thanks to a timely Facebook post, we met Josh and Evangeline Provost, one of the nicest couples you could ever hope to meet -- who also happened to have a '70s-style sitcom set crowding them out of their own family room. Thanks to the generous donation of the Provosts and their film and video production company, Matter of Chance Productions, Rising Arts now has a beautifully constructed period apartment set (and a nice supply of spare lumber and set pieces) for its first play, Love, Sex & the IRS.

Hangin' with Fidel is an original, web-based sitcom produced by Matter of Chance. As explained on its project page on Kickstarter (a site for raising funds for creative projects), the show is based on a simple premise: "Two guys share an apartment with Fidel Castro." Josh and his team styled the show to resemble old-fashioned sitcoms, complete with laugh track, catch phrases and even a "very special episode."

Fidel was the final writing project of Brock Brown, one of the original Matter of Chance team, who died of a heart condition in 2009. To honor their friend, his partners filmed all eight existing episodes on a tight schedule in October 2011. The completed episodes are set to be released once every two weeks beginning in January 2012.

All of us at Rising Arts greatly appreciate the boost we've been given by the Provosts and Matter of Chance Productions. And we look forward to checking out Hangin' with Fidel!
